Maintains Dialogue with Congress on important maritime issues,
including special briefings with Navy Leaguers that have significant
impact on national security and which may affect active duty,
reserve, and retired personnel.
Provides the HIGHLINE
family transition assistance program to help members of the sea
services and their families make the often difficult transition from
active duty to civilian life.
Sends "Action Alerts" and
Special Reports on matters of vital interest to America's sea
services to Navy Leaguers, Members of Congress, and key national
leaders in the public and private sectors.
Presents more than 100
national level awards to deserving sea service members each
year. Local councils present hundreds more awards as well.
Supports nationwide recognition programs
for "Sailors/Marines of the
Quarter." "Sailors/Marines of the Year" and "Recruiters of the
Year."
Supports Adopt-a-Ship
programs that put local Navy League councils and their members
into regular, close contact with the crews of specific ships, bases
or shore installations.
Sponsors the Naval Sea Cadet Corps,
the Navy League Cadet Corps
and supports local NROTC/NJROTC/MCJROTC programs. These
programs instill in America's young people traditional values of
honor, courage and commitment, plus encourage interest in the sea
services.
Awards over $200,000 in
college scholarships to deserving high school graduates each
year.
Awards cash prizes
to national and regional student
winners of the Navy League's annual Samuel Eliot Morison Essay
Contest.
Works closely with the Chiefs of
Information for the
Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard to keep the American people
informed on key issues of importance to our nation's maritime
interests.
Sponsors regional symposia
in various locations to
educate community leaders with regard to the need for strong
maritime capabilities.
Conducts Executive Forums
to encourage the exchange of
information between corporate and sea service leadership.
Develops and provides
videos, "Speaker Kits." and other educational materials for use
by Navy League councils in their community education programs.
Hosts the annual Sea-Air-Space Exposition,
the largest naval/maritime
exposition in the world. Attended by thousands, this unique
event brings together members of the military and defense industry
under one roof. Featuring over 150 exhibits by companies from
all over the world, SAS includes dozens of professional seminars and
technical briefings.
Presents Awards such as
the Arleigh Burke Award for outstanding national leadership;
the Nimitz Award for exemplary contributions to the
enhancement of American maritime strength and national security; and
the Michelson Award for outstanding scientific achievement
contributing to a stronger maritime force.
